INFORMATION
Headlights yellow because the UV-protective coating on polycarbonate lenses breaks down over time. In Greenville's high UV environment, this happens faster than in lower-sun states. The yellowing scatters light, reducing beam intensity and range. Restoration involves sanding through the oxidized layer with progressively finer grits, polishing to optical clarity, and applying a UV sealant to protect against re-oxidation. The difference is usually dramatic - visibly clearer and significantly brighter at night.
SC state inspection requires functioning headlights, and an inspector can fail a vehicle for severely degraded lenses in some cases. Beyond inspection, most drivers find their night driving noticeably improved after restoration. It's one of our fastest turnaround services with both headlights typically done in 45–60 minutes at your location.
Headlight restoration is often added to a full service detail as a finishing touch, especially for pre-sale vehicles. A yellowed headlight on an otherwise clean car stands out to buyers. Add it to any booking for $200. Same-day detailing available most days with a +$50 rush fee.

How long does restoration last before they yellow again?
A professional restoration with sealant reapplication typically lasts 1–3 years. The longevity depends on sun exposure and whether the vehicle parks outside. DIY kits tend to last months, not years, because they skip or rush the sealant step.
Will headlight restoration improve my nighttime visibility?
Yes, significantly. Heavily oxidized headlights can block 50–80% of light output. Restoration removes the haze and restores light transmission. If your headlights look foggy, nighttime driving safety is already affected.
Is restoration safe for all headlight types?
Yes for standard polycarbonate lenses, which cover the vast majority of vehicles on the road. Glass headlights (found on some classic or European vehicles) don't oxidize the same way and typically don't need restoration.
Can you restore headlights on a newer vehicle?
Yes. Vehicles as recent as 3–5 years old can show oxidation, especially if they park outside in direct sun. We restore headlights regardless of vehicle age - the lens condition matters more than the year.
